Foro del Departamento de Matemáticas: “Mathematical modeling in infectious diseases (influenza)"


La profesora Sunmi Lee, del Departamento de Matemáticas aplicadas de la universidad Kyung Hee, Korea del Sur, presentará la charla “Mathematical modeling in infectious diseases (influenza)".

RESUMEN
Mathematical modeling has made significant contributions to understanding the spread of infectious diseases, and also providing useful insights to control or decrease the disease burden. Researchers have started to embark on the challenging task of using epidemic models for forecasting morbidity and mortality impact during epidemics as a function of various control interventions or changes in population behavior. In this talk, we review some basic mathematical models in infectious diseases from a simple SIR (susceptible-infectious-recovered) model to more complex models with a main focus on pandemic influenza. Furthermore, the optimal control problem is formulated in an influenza model to identify optimal strategies at a minimal cost.
